The short answer
For an independent professional designer, expect $400–$2,500 for a logo with basic identity elements, with a typical small-business project around $850. The full market runs wider in both directions:
| Tier | Range | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| DIY / AI generators | $0–$50 | A mark from a template library. Fine for testing an idea. |
| Marketplace gig tiers | $50–$400 | Fast, high-volume work. Quality varies enormously. |
| Independent professional | $400–$2,500 | Discovery, original concepts, revisions, source files, usage rights. |
| Studio / full identity system | $2,500–$15,000+ | Strategy, full identity suite, brand guidelines, collateral. |
What actually moves the price
Process, not pixels. A $1,200 logo and a $120 logo can look similar in a portfolio thumbnail. The difference is what happened before the drawing: competitive research, discovery questions, concept exploration, and revision structure. You’re paying for the probability that the mark is right, not just attractive.
Deliverables. A professional quote includes vector source files, color and mono variants, and clear ownership transfer. If any of those are missing from a low quote, the real price is higher than it looks — you’ll pay again to fix it.
Rights. Some low-cost providers retain ownership or reuse elements across clients. Ownership of the final work should be explicit in writing. Our freelance contract template covers this clause.
